Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), established in 1984, is a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under the Ministry of Commerce responsible for facilitation, development and promotion of exports for the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Region. In the TAP region, there are 52 operational SEZs, including Central, Private, and State Government SEZs. These include 8 ELCOT SEZs, 5 SIPCOT SEZs, 1 Central Government SEZ, and 38 Private Sector SEZs.
