Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), established in 1984, is a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under the Ministry of Commerce responsible for facilitation, development and promotion of exports for the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Region. In the TAP region, there are 52 operational SEZs, including Central, Private, and State Government SEZs. MEPZ SEZ / ZDC , TAP Region also has world class Free Trade Warehousing Zones like J Matadee. present which boasts top-tier Grade-A warehousing facilities and state-of-the-art industrial infrastructure along with ICBP (DP World) and NDR. One of the major development in the recent times is the permission granted to Gold and Silver Vault in the FTWZ to accommodate overseas suppliers. M/s. Brinks India P ltd., is one of the leading player in the category of business. The Major import of Gold into Chennai has majorly shifted from Airways.
